SANTA FE, NM – The New Mexico IceHoles
Charitable Foundation and the Albuquerque/Santa Fe Media Jackals
held the 7th Annual NM IceHoles Charitable Hockey Game.
This yea’s event benefited the Cade Webber Fund. Seven month old
Cade was diagnosed with biliary atresia and requires a liver
transplant.
The game itself was
great entertainment for the 200+ fans in the Genoveva Chavez
Community Center. After a slow opening 10 minutes the Media Jackals
unleashed their scoring lines and built a comfortable 4-1 lead. The
second half of the game was all Jackals as they went on to win the
contest 8-3.
More importantly
the game and event was a huge success for Cade Webber and his
family. More than $4,500 has been raised so far through the event.
Donations have continued to arrive and solicitations will continue
in an effort to reach the $60,000 target.
While everyone
involved stepped up and helped in this effort there are a few
individuals who should be
mentioned for their efforts.
Bob Pope of the
Santa Fe Roadrunners provided the outstanding facilities and support
of the Chavez Center and the Roadrunners squad. Bob was a great
motivator and made sure the event was a success.
Peter Olson led the
charge for the Media Jackals and was a huge part of the success of
this event. Peter’s efforts created the media team that supported
the entire effort.
Glen Rosales of the
Albuquerque Journal was the instigator of the event and advocate for
the Webber family.
Tony Poccia of
Virtual Reality was outstanding in his efforts to promote and
support the event. Tony produced a TV public service announcement
and was able to get 150 spots on local cable systems for the game.
His efforts were instrumental in putting 200+ fans in the stands.
John Salazar of
KOAT-TV in Albuquerque produced a terrific piece for his sportscast
the week prior to the game.
Eric Kahnert of KOB-TV
featured the Webber Family on his Saturday morning broadcast.
Joe Hanson and the
NM Hockey League were crucial to the evening’s success as well. The
players in the league and the league itself generously supported the
game and fund through donations and filling out the rosters for each
squad.
Special thanks to Al Hurricane for his performance of the national
anthem . What a way to start the game.
We want to thank
all of the players and Foundation members who made this a great
evening. Vince and Diana Hesch and Linda Davis for working the
auction tables and generating such interest in the items including
the autographed Mickey Mouse jersey.
